So Much to Think About!
As we move along in creating our wiki, it seems like there is so much work do and things to think about. It takes time to research and gather information, make the information understandable and load information on the wiki. I'm wondering how could I do all of this with elementary students in a 50 minute art period once a week. Any ideas on how to break it down?

I think that to be able to fully use a wiki in our situations would be to use it over a long period of time such as a quarter or semester and update it each class for about 5-10 min or something like that. Other than that I think that it would just take too much time.
ReplyDeleteI completely know what you mean, Keara. We are of course providing a lot more information on our advocacy wikis than I think we'd ask of our elementary students, though. I do agree that using it over a long period of time is the way to go. Even if you were to start one this year and do it little by little with classes (or just one class) as you got more comfortable, you could extend it into next year and following years. I think choosing the topic, or purpose, for the wiki is the first step. Good luck!! :)
ReplyDeleteKeara, how about keeping a wiki throughout the year with the terms and/or styles of art you teach your students? Perhaps you could start with one grade level and see how it goes. The wikis could be available to build upon among the grade level or even for other students from year to year. I am not sure this would be helpful, but...
ReplyDeleteI really like Robert's idea of working on it for just a few minutes during class. You may want to start with the olders kids first and see how that goes.
